Yudo has been a resident member at ZCLA since 2003 and received Jukai from Roshi Egyoku in 2005. He is ZCLA’s Guest Steward, Parking Steward, Photography Steward, Production Artist for the Water Wheel and he runs the online store. Yudo also assists in Development and Programs when he is not offering his practice in service to the sangha by helping others sew their own rakusu. See his story below:

“I remember at the time how difficult it was to sew a Rakusu so the sewing instructor, Gemmon, went to Roshi Egyoku to ask if she could sew it for me. It was important to Gemmon that I receive the precepts and, of course, you have to attend the classes and sew a Rakusu if you planned on having one. So Gemmon sewed it for me!

For three years Sensei Faith-Mind kept encouraging me to sew my own Rakusu and I kept saying no! I finally gave in and sewed it. I made a commitment to sew at least thirty minutes a day and I loved every minute of it!

I’ve always wanted to learn how to sew on a machine and so I went to a Joann store in the Valley and took several classes. From there I bought a basic sewing machine and went on YouTube to learn as much as I could about sewing. I ended up buying a bigger machine and after using that for a while, I bought an even bigger and better machine for quilting. I’ve now been making quilts for the last four years and I’ve sewn at least 25 Rakusus for people who couldn’t sew their own.”
