Day of the Dead/O-bon 2025

EVENT INFO

For this year’s annual Day of Dead/O-Bon, ZCLA will offer a special celebration of our ancestors via food, stories, song, humor and service.

We will have sign-up lists with limited slots to bring and share:

  • A special dish from your family or heritage to contribute to the Sangha lunch (adapted to vegetarian if necessary).
  • A song or music from your family or heritage (around 3 minutes).
  • A family story or ancestral tale (around 3 minutes).
  • A family or ancestral joke or humorous snippet to share.
  • If you have an art piece, object, dance step or life lesson you’d also like to share let us know.

You can also just bring yourself along with photos of your departed loved ones to place on our Day of Dead/Obon altar in the garden.


TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

8:00 a.m. Optional open Zazen; place photos on the altar; Hot chocolate, pan dulce.

9:00 a.m. Gate of Sweet Nectar – Obon Service in the Garden

10 a.m. Sharing of stories, songs and humor.

12:00 p.m. Sangha Ancestral potluck lunch

 

Followed by clean-up and altar strike.

All are welcome to attend.


EVENT FEE

This event is provided without a fee, but please consider making a small donation to ZCLA to support our programs. We will also do a pre-set up of the altars in the garden on Saturday, November 1 after the morning’s zazen. Lunch will be provided for all those who help. Please let us know if you are available.
