A Daylong Meditation Retreat

Zazenkai is a daylong retreat devoted to samadhi practice, with Great Silence observed throughout the day. This Zazenkai, offered both in-person at ZCLA and via Zoom, is an opportunity to intensify and deepen your practice through the experience of periods of uninterrupted meditation (zazen), walking meditation (kinhin), a dharma talk, service, face-to-face meetings with Sensei Nem Etsugen Bajra, as well as time for mindful work practice (samu) and meals. Zoom participants will have time to eat, walk and do their own samu at home, then link back into the sesshin schedule. Full time participation is encouraged. If you wish to participate part time, please let Myoki know your precise attendance, including expected arrival and departure times. Part time consists of at least a half a day, including all scheduled activities. Housing is not guaranteed. First come, first served. Newcomers please also fill out the application online. Both first time* and seasoned practitioners are encouraged and welcome to participate.

SENSEI NEM ETSTUGEN BAJRA

 

Sensei George Mukei Horner is a preceptor and Dharma Holder at the Zen Center of Los Angeles, where he has been a member since 1984. He received Dharma Transmission (Denbo) from Roshi Egyoku in 2022. He served as the Zendo Steward for various years, overseeing the training of service positions for the meditation hall, and continues as an instructor for various classes offered at ZCLA.

REGISTRATION & PAYMENT

By selecting "Full Time," you are indicating that you will be available for the entire sesshin schedule with no exceptions.
Part time consists of at least a half a day, including all scheduled activities.
We will try to honor requests for single rooms as space allows.
If you have a valid reason for your request, please explain in the "Notes" section.
Residents and Commuters skip this option.
Please indicate if you will be needing a full or partial oryoki rental.
A full set includes bowls, utensils, linens and chant card.
A partial set includes any of those individual items.
All are charged the same fee.
