Intro to Zen Meditation Class III

Offered one Sunday each month, this class opens participants up to the world of Zen liturgy. It is said that this kind of ceremony helps us express the inexpressible. Although one can engage with liturgy more privately, when done in community, it has the power to affect the way we relate to ancient teachings, to the ancestors of the tradition, to each other, and really to all beings throughout space and time. Our weekly Sunday service is called Gate of Sweet Nectar. It’s one of our most elaborate ceremonies, involving singing (not just chanting), temple instruments, and even some movement. Liturgy books will be handed out so everyone can follow along. After the service, we will join others in the zendo for two periods of zazen, concluding as always with the Four Bodhisattva Vows. 

Prerequisite: Participants must have previously taken Zen Practice Class Iin person. Those who have taken Zen Practice II (which focuses in part on the teacher-student relationship) will have the opportunity to see a teacher during zazen.
