Buddha Hand Circle

Buddha Hand Council  Vision, Purpose, Mission and Values

Our Vision: We are in alignment with the Vision Statement of the Zen Center of Los Angeles: an enlightened world in which suffering is transcended; all beings live in harmony; everyone has enough; deep wisdom is realized and compassion flows unhindered.

Our Purpose: To support the practice opportunity of residency at ZCLA; we work to facilitate, mediate and work with residents on a variety of issues.

Our Mission: We support the actualization of our Vision and Purpose:

  • by monthly meetings to review issues of concern to the residential community;
  • by the creation of guidelines and meaningful  requirements for residency;
  • by providing forums in various forms to facilitate conflict resolution among individuals as well as working to create effective and inclusive policies on issues of shared concern to residents;
  • by active involvement, in cooperation with the Abbot, to accomplish a periodic review process for residents.

Our Core Values:

  • to be open to and support issues and concerns of residents
  • to hold witness position for residents
  • to provide safe settings for deep active listening
  • to  listen deeply to each other as circle members
  • to be open to the collective wisdom that arises within the BHC and from other sources
  • to maintain an attitude of openness and transparency
  • to protect the privacy of residents, with the exception of situations wherein the safety of the larger community may be compromised
  • to work toward the creation of policies concerning residency as the need arises
