RETREAT INFO

This Sesshin is a two-daylong retreat devoted to samadhi practice, offered both in-person at ZCLA and via Zoom, will be the culmination of a three-week Zen Leadership Intensive. With Great Silence observed throughout, it is an opportunity to intensify and deepen your practice through the experience of periods of uninterrupted meditation (zazen), walking meditation (kinhin), a dharma talk, service, face-to-face meetings with Sensei Myoho, as well as time for mindful work practice (samu) and meals. Zoom participants will have time to eat, walk and do their own samu at home, then link back into the sesshin schedule. Open to everyone, newcomers are especially welcomed to attend*.

In-person participants:
DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29.
$25 fee will be charged for dropping out or registering past posted deadlines.

In-person participation is limited. Please register early to guarantee a seat in the Zendo.

 

Zoom Participants:

Members: $40/Day; $120/Fulltime

Non-Members: $60/Day; $180/Fulltime

*Non-members and new members: Attending an in-person “Introduction to Zen Meditation Class” or Beginner’s Wednesday offering is a prerequisite for attending all onsite activities.

Sensei Darla Myoho Fjeld is a Zen Buddhist priest and Temple Development Steward at the Zen Center of Los Angeles. She began her practice at the Zen Studies Society in New York in 1996 and in 1997 began practicing at the Fire Lotus Zendo in New York. While in New York she was a political organizer and then spent 9 years as a Research Associate for the Auburn Seminary Center for the Study of Theological Education. She began her practice at ZCLA in 2001. She was the Development Director and then the Executive Director of Coalition LA, a poor people’s organization for 8 years. She earned a M.Div and STM from Union Theological Seminary in New York from 1981-1985. She has a Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Religion from Drew University, Madison, NJ and taught at El Camino College in Torrance, CA for 20 years.
